What would a robot save your line?
Malaysian wages, EPF, SOCSO, the foreign-worker levy and the Smart Automation Grant, worked out in the open. Every assumption is listed below the numbers.
Payback
- Labour on this task, per year
- Hours the robot takes over, in wages
- Running cost, per year
- Your cost after the grant
- Net after 3 years

How we worked it out
- We count the hours the robot takes over (90% of palletising, 85% of machine tending, 75% of pick and place), not jobs cut. Most sites move those people to inspection, changeovers and running the cell.
- Local operators cost wage plus employer EPF (13%), SOCSO (1.75%) and EIS (0.2%). Foreign operators cost wage plus employer EPF (2%), SOCSO employment injury (1.25%) and the RM1,850 yearly levy.
- Running cost is the Seventh Axis software subscription (RM1,200 a month per cell) plus 3% of the cell price a year for maintenance. We don't sell the robot: you buy the arm from your supplier or integrator, and Seventh Axis programs it.
- We leave out productivity gains, fewer injuries and night shifts without overtime, so real payback is usually faster.
- This is an estimate, not a quote or financial advice. A pilot measures it on your line.
